About the Chamber

Incorporated in 1942 as a successor to the Chatham Board of Trade, the Chatham Chamber of Commerce, with its over 360 members, is dedicated to blending the interests of the business community with those of town government as well as Chatham’s year-round and summer residents and many seasonal visitors.  We are especially proud of Chatham with its wonderful heritage and its natural beauty, and our members, each of whom continually strive to preserve what we are fortunate to have here in Chatham.

Visitor Information Services 

A Visitor Information Center is located in the town-owned David T. Bassett House, 2377 Main Street, at the intersection of Routes 28 and 137 in South Chatham.  The seasonal Information Booth is located at 533 Main Street, next to Town Hall.  Both locations are under the supervision of the Chatham Chamber of Commerce and maintained by the Town of Chatham.

Chatham Merchants Association

The Chatham Merchants Association, a branch of the Chamber of Commerce, is an active group of retailers and other business managers who direct certain special events in Chatham. Among the key accomplishments of the Merchants Association are December’s Christmas by the Sea and the charitable Angel Fund (Ginny Nickerson), Main Street Christmas Stroll, Easter Egg Hunt, Art in the Park, Pumpkin People in the Park, Oktoberfest.

All about Chatham

One of Cape Cod’s oldest townships, Chatham was settled in 1656 by William and Anne Busby Nickerson.  Incorporated in 1712, Chatham now has approximately 6,600 residents.

Originally a farming community, Chatham’s inhabitants found deep sea fishing more lucrative.  Today, small boat deep sea fishing and shell fishing continue as important maritime industries.

Chatham covers an area of approximately 17 square miles and is a happy combination of past and present.  You will find Chatham to be an old-fashioned and picturesque New England seaside village, yet offering the best in modern facilities.  Surrounded by water on three sides, Chatham benefits from Mother Nature’s “natural air conditioning” with cool summers, exquisite autumns, and mild winters.  It is a comfortable place in which to live year-round or visit on vacation.

Chatham operates under the town meeting form of government.  The executive offers are a board of five part-time Selectmen and a Town Manager.  The citizens of Chatham enjoy the special benefits of forward-looking zoning and planning, and both public and private conservation efforts.
